Out of the frying pan and into the fire ...

THE “glorified bin liner” that American distance runner Kara Goucher said she used to prepare for the World Championships sounds very much like the “Sweatz vest” reviewed in AW Basics on August 2.

Goucher pipped Britain’s Jo Pavey to a medal at the World Championships in Osaka, and said she prepared for the heat and humidity by wearing a tight plastic top on her torso.

It doesn’t sound very comfortable, or glamorous, but it certainly seems to have worked for Goucher.

So if you ever find yourself preparing for a warm-weather event, then you might want to check out www.sweatzsportz.com .

AW Basics stresses that this garment should be used carefully. But if you plan to compete in a hot climate, it is certainly better to get used to heat in the UK with a Sweatz vest rather going straight into – and expecting to perform well in – tropical conditions.
