►The fast route to success QUALITY training is usually better than quantity. A recent Canadian study gave one group of athletes two and a half hours of high-intensity exercise over two weeks, while the other group did ten and a half hours of moderate work over the same period. The high-intensity group improved by 10.5 per cent while the endurance group ‘was just’ 7.5 per cent better at the end of the period. ►Post-workout coffee MUSCLE soreness can be reduced by 48 per cent if you take two cups of coffee after exercise. Australian researchers gave thigh exercises to a group of volunteers and then fed them either a caffeinated drink or a placebo, with the caffeine group reporting far less pain. ►Too much sleep MOST people need seven to eight hours of sleep, but did you know it’s possible to have too much? Indeed, having nine or ten hours sleep is more likely to leave you feeling groggy. A good diet can help reduce symptoms – so consume less sugar and eat more fresh fruit and vegetables. Nettle tea and homeopathic treatments are also thought to help. |
