Foster Review plans strike hurdle POLITICS: Ongoing rows over post-Foster Review changes lead to suspension of AAA treasurer Keith Atkins THE heated debate over plans to modernise the sport in the wake of the Foster Review has claimed a major casualty, with Keith Atkins being suspended from his post as treasurer of the AAA of England, writes Jason Henderson. Despite the spotlight being on the World Championships in Helsinki, there are bitter arguments behind the scenes, as political administrators in England and anti-Foster activists continue to argue about the nature of the proposed changes. Atkins has been asked to resign and if he does not an EGM will be called to decide his future. As well as treasurer, he is also the company secretary of the AAA. George Bunner, the chairman of the AAA of England, would not comment on why Atkins had been asked to stand down. But the suspension is believed to be linked to the ongoing row surrounding proposals to replace the AAA with England Athletics in April 2006. It is 15 months since Sir Andrew Foster announced the results of his independent review of athletics in the UK, which was called ‘Moving On’ and intended to act as a blueprint for change. But whereas the plan has undergone a number of adaptations under the leadership of Jack Buckner, the man charged with developing and delivering it, there has also been much opposition.
