Just two athletes remain in the chase for the $1million jackpot prize

CHRISTINE ARRON, the former European 100m champion, and Tatyana Lebedeva, the double world triple jump champion, are the only contenders for the Golden League jackpot after Friday’s third leg of the series.

A revamped stadium, with eight lanes now instead of the six it had been famous for, was the scene as some of the world’s top athletes made their final preparations for the World Championships in Helsinki, which begin this Saturday.

With three contenders before the start, there was defeat for Lashinda Demus in the 400m hurdles.

So Arron and Lebedeva are guaranteed at least half a million dollars each should they win at the remaining three events.

Arron, 31, overcame a poor start to beat Olympic silver medallist Lauryn Williams of the USA to win in 11.06. Williams was second in 11.16 with former USA champion Latasher Colander third in 11.17.
