Six appeal!

Junior athletics in Britain looks in great shape after six gold medals, writes Steve Landells.

A WEEK after Britain’s encouraging performance at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Marrakesh, it was the under-20s’ turn to take centre stage and they performed with distinction, winning six golds and finishing second in the medal table.

With London 2012 fresh in everyone’s mind, these European Junior Championships offered a useful pointer for seven years’ time because these athletes will be in their mid-20s and, perhaps, at their peak.

Britain finished second behind the Russians with six gold, five silver and three bronze medals.
