There’s no time like the present for Gatlin

RICHARDLEWIS on what could be a classic 100m race at Crystal Palace

WHEN Asafa Powell broke the 100 metres world record in Athens last month, Justin Gatlin looked at it in two ways. “It could make you or break you,” says Gatlin. “You can say he has run 9.77 and I have never run that fast before; or you can say, I have beaten him before and I can again. He is almost the same age as me and I can do the same thing.”

Gatlin is 23, Powell is 22. One is the Olympic 100m champion, the other is the fastest man in the world and when they meet at the London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace on Friday night, some of those questions might be answered.
