Bring on Helsinki

Superb weather led to brilliant performances at the trials for Helsinki.

SUCH has been the unforgettable past week for
British sport even the sun shone for two blissful days in Manchester and the crowd were treated to one world-class
performance, two historic doubles and some memorable racing.
However, despite the feel-good factor washing over British sport in wake of London being awarded the 2012 Olympics it would be folly to suggest British athletics approaches the World Championships in Helsinki next month in rude health.

A genuine lack of world-class performers and injuries to a number of our key medal hopefuls means the team going to Finland is likely be one of the smallest and, sadly, potentially
one of the weakest to be sent to a world championship.
Yet there were enough uplifting performances to offer hope for the future.
