DAI GREENE and Rhys Williams took a British one-two in the final of the 400m hurdles. Greene, the UK champion was one of the most highly rated favourites coming into the European Championships as the world finalist held the five fastest times in Europe and was more than half a second ahead of his closest rival based on season’s best performances.

Greene translated this form into the final and the 23-year-old didn’t face too much of a scare en route to the gold medal. The Welshman crossed the line in a lifetime best of 48.12 to extend his European-leading mark and leapfrog Chris Rawlinson to go equal No.2 on the UK all-time lists with David Hemery and behind British record-holder Kriss Akabusi.

Williams improved on his bronze medal from Gothenburg, finishing with a silver medal in a PB of 48.96, while Stanislav Melnyakov from Ukraine won the bronze medal in a lifetime best of 49.09.
