Thompson moves to No.3 on UK all-time lists
By Steven Mills, May 2nd 2010

Chris Thompson produced an emphatic 10,000m debut of 27:29.61 at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational in Stanford to move to third on the UK all-time lists

CHRIS THOMPSON made a superlative 10,000m debut at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational in Stanford on May 1 as the in-form 29-year-old moved to No.3 on the UK all-time lists with 27:29.61, which is the fastest time by a British athlete since Jon Brown set the UK record of 27:18.14 in Brussels in 1998.

The AFD athlete, who has been setting a slew of lifetime best performances this season, took sixth in a very high calibre race and Thompson’s PB performance must guarantee selection for the European Championships in Barcelona this summer.

Club-mate Andy Vernon also set a PB of 28:11.43.

The race was emphatically won by Chris Solinsky, who continued the US resurgence in long-distance running with a national record of 26:59.60.

The Kenyan duo of Daniel Salel and Sam Chelanga took second and third with PBs of 27:07.85 and 27:08.39 respectively, while Galen Rupp took fourth, also in a PB of 27:10.74.
