Dwain Chambers: 6.48 to win world indoor title
DWAIN CHAMBERS rocketed to the world indoor title in Doha in a world-leading mark of 6.48 to defeat USA’s Michael Rodgers and Antigua & Barbuda’s Daniel Bailey.
The Belgrave Harrier started as the pre-race favourite in the absence of world No.1 Ivory Williams, who received a three-month ban after testing positive for cannabis, and the former world 100m bronze medallist improved on his silver medal from two years ago.
Chambers, who was dismissive in the heats and semi finals, was away fastest from the blocks and even though Chambers was pushed hard by Rodgers in the final, the American was unable to overturn Chambers’ lead.
Rodgers, who was fourth in Valencia two years ago, won the silver medal in 6.53 while Bailey, who trains alongside Usain Bolt, won the bronze medal in 6.57.
Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, who was second behind Chambers at the UK Indoor Championships, pulled up in the semi-finals with a hamstring injury.
