Chambers’ chances boosted by Williams’ absence
By Steven Mills, March 11th 2010

US indoor 60m champion Ivory Williams, who leads the world-rankings with 6.49, has received a three-month ban after testing positive for marijuana

Dwain Chambers: No.1 ranked 60m sprinter in Doha this week

US indoor champion Ivory Williams, who is the only athlete to have run faster than Dwain Chambers this season, has been forced to miss the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha after testing positive for Carboxy THC, a marijuana metabolite.

Williams, who set a 60m world-leading mark of 6.49 at the US Indoor Championships in Albuquerque last month, received a three-month ban from the sport.

This makes Chambers the pre-competition favourite for the gold medal in Doha. The 31-year-old won the UK Indoor Championships in 6.50 and the Belgrave Harrier is the most experienced competitor in the field.
