Usain Bolt has been recognised as the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year for the second successive year
USAIN BOLT has been named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year for the second successive year.
After winning last year’s award for his triple gold medal winning display at the Olympic Games in Beijing, the Jamaican replicated this gold medal tally at the World Championships and the Jamaican also lowered his 100m and 200m world records to 9.58 and 19.19 respectively.
On receiving the award, Bolt said: "For me it was even better because I had a car accident and bounced back and it shows me that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.
“I have got to the stage where I know what winning is and how to keep winning and I want to keep running, breaking records and winning championships.”
Laureus Academy member Nawal El Moutawakel, who won the inaugural Olympic 400m hurdles title in 1984, received the Laureus Lifetime Achievement Award for her work for women in sport and her involvement with the International Olympic committee.
