Helen Clitheroe won the 1500m at the PSD-Bank Meeting in Dusseldorf in a European-leading mark of 4:10.29
HELEN CLITHEROE’S speed told on the final lap of the 1500m at the PSD-Bank Meeting in Dusseldorf as the Preston athlete stormed to victory. The 36-year-old followed the pacemaker through 400m in 66.62 and 800m in 2:14.38 and after Ukraine’s Tamara Tverdostup dropped out after 1000m, Clitheroe ensured the pace remained healthy.
The 36-year-old UK steeplechase record-holder had some five athletes on her shoulder at the bell but Clitheroe convincingly pulled away from her rivals on the last lap to set a European-leading mark of 4:10.29 for her second win of the year, after taking maximum points in the 3000m at the Aviva International in Glasgow.
Poland’s Angelika Cichocka took second in a big PB of 4:10.54 while Kenya’s Irene Jelagat was third in 4:11.50.
