The former world junior 100m champion wins the London Games in 6.59
MARK LEWIS-FRANCIS returned to form with his fastest 60m in five years. The 2004 Olympic relay gold medallist won the London Games in Lee Valley (January 30-31) in 6.59, to move to equal second on the world-rankings.
The Birchfield Harrier, who has been plagued by a succession of Achilles injuries in the past two seasons, looks to be near to his best again and replicating this form at the World Indoor Trials in two weeks time will make him one of the prime candidates for the 60m title.
Following on from her runner-up finish at the Glasgow International at Kelvin Hall, Birchfield’s Bernice Wilson improved her 60m PB from 7.37 to 7.31, which was also backed up with a 7.32 clocking.
Wilson’s 7.31 also moves her to the top of the UK rankings, eclipsing Joice Maduaka’s Karlsruhe performance by one-hundredth.
